Jeffers Class

Teachers: Mrs Stubbs & Mrs Thomas

Welcome to Class Jeffers.  We are year 3 and have two teachers Mrs Stubbs and Mrs Thomas. We are currently studying the work of Oliver Jeffers in English lessons and we all love his stories and illustrations.

Class Jeffers begun the Autumn term by thinking about how we can all develop a positive mindset.  We aim to try our best and always reach for the stars. We try never to say ‘I can’t’ instead we say “I’ll try a different strategy and try again.”

Our topic is Great Britain and we have already looked at the work of the British artist David Hockney. We looked at his latest exhibition of paintings titled ‘Welcome to Spring’ and painted our own versions called ‘Welcome to Autumn.’ Class Jeffers are brilliant artists and some of our work is on the classroom wall.

In geography we have been looking at maps of Great Britain and have found and labelled the countries and some cities.

Our work on David Hockney also links with our RE work about our Wonderful World.  We will be looking at the story of the creation in the bible and considering how God would like us to look after our Wonderful  World.

We are learning French in Class Jeffers and have French Friday when we say good morning to Mrs Stubbs in French.  We think French is fun. We can sing some songs and can chant numbers, next we will learn to say colours.

In Class Jeffers we also love sport and have had two boys- Marcus and Joshy already in Special Mentions Worship for excellent tennis skills. We are enjoying rugby coaching from Huddersfield Giants and we have also been having tennis coaching from Johnny who is a coach at Thongsbridge tennis club. Nearly half our class took part in the inter schools cross country in September. All the children completed the course and were brilliant.  They supported each other in the races and it was a great team effort.  Well done to all who took part. The next inter school sporting event is girl’s football, we have Liana and Millie B from class Jeffers on the team, good luck girls.

This is just a taste of what we have done so far in the first few weeks in class Jeffers.

We have also elected new school councillors – Reuben and Isobel who wrote and delivered a manifesto to the class, they are very proud to have been chosen and I’m sure will contribute positively to the life of the school.

We are all now looking forward to an exciting year ahead in Class Jeffers  in which we will all try our best to achieve success and develop our strengths through a broad and balanced curriculum.

Update Tuesday 17th October

Class Jeffers are enjoying using atlases to find out about Great Britain, sea and oceans, cities, rivers and mountains. We love working with our friends and sharing ideas and facts.
